If you’re feeling tired, breathless, foggy, or “not quite yourself,” iron deficiency may be the cause.
Iron helps your body produce red blood cells and deliver oxygen to your tissues. When levels are low, everyday tasks can feel harder than they should. Symptoms often include fatigue, weakness, hair thinning, dizziness, headaches, pale skin, and shortness of breath.
Iron deficiency is common in women, particularly during menstruation or pregnancy, and in those with low intake or absorption issues. Left untreated, it can progress to iron-deficiency anaemia.
At Alchemy, our clinicians provide clinically supervised iron infusions to restore levels quickly and safely, helping many patients feel more energised and clear-headed.
Iron deficiency is diagnosed through blood tests, and the appropriate treatment depends on its severity and underlying cause. It can be managed with dietary changes, oral iron supplements or intravenous (IV) iron therapy.
An IV iron infusion is the most effective way of optimising your iron levels. The Iron Infusion process takes approximately one hour to administer under the supervision of a doctor, and can be given at our clinic.
You should not receive an iron infusion if you are not iron-deficient, and it is essential to have a blood test to determine if you are suitable. If you already have a recent test, then we may be able to use that to determine your suitability. We have several blood tests available to help indicate whether an Iron Infusion is a suitable option for you:
Join Dr Will Buxton as he explains iron deficiency in women, exploring what it is, how it develops, and why understanding it is important.
A rapid ferritin (iron) deficiency test takes 15 minutes and costs £50.
An iron profile blood test costs £150.
An in-clinic iron infusion, administered by a doctor, costs from £500 to £895.

The cost of an iron infusion varies from person to person and depends on:
A Doctor consultation is included in the price. This consultation involves reviewing your symptoms, medical history and blood results, confirming whether an iron infusion is appropriate, calculating the correct dose, and discussing the risks, benefits and next steps.
Once we’ve spoken with you and reviewed your information, we’ll confirm the most appropriate treatment and provide a clear, personalised price before you proceed.
It is usually between £500 and £895

You may benefit from an iron infusion if you have symptoms such as fatigue, breathlessness or brain fog alongside low iron levels, if oral iron has not been effective or tolerated, or if you have ongoing iron loss (for example heavy menstrual bleeding, pregnancy-related deficiency, or certain medical conditions).
A recent blood test is always required and we can provide those. There is no single cut-off ferritin result that applies to everyone, but ferritin levels below around 60 µg/L can be considered for an infusion when symptoms are present. Your clinician will always assess ferritin in context, alongside haemoglobin, symptoms, medical history and underlying causes, before recommending treatment.

Iron infusions can be used during pregnancy when clinically indicated. This is assessed carefully on a case-by-case basis and is typically considered from the second trimester onwards. We take gestation, blood results and symptoms into account and, where appropriate, liaise with your maternity team and provide written communication to support safe, coordinated care.

Iron deficiency anaemia can develop for a variety of reasons, often linked to blood loss, diet, or underlying health conditions.
IDA can affect your physical, mental and emotional wellbeing, which is why identifying the cause and treating it effectively is so important.
Iron deficiency anaemia can cause a wide range of symptoms, many of which can significantly affect daily life and overall well-being. These can include:
Oral iron replenishment can be slow and poorly tolerated, with many patients complaining of gastrointestinal upset.
An iron infusion replenishes your iron stores much more quickly than oral supplements, helping you feel better sooner and without the digestive side effects.
You may be suitable for IV iron if:
We may also recommend IV iron if:
Don’t let iron deficiency hold you back. Replenishing your iron stores can improve energy, mood, sleep, and overall well-being – helping you feel like yourself again.
